Compilation of Blogs in Datamining

We learn our character from our parents and we tend to improve it as we go through our lives. When we are in high school, they observed and monitored (as well as online) our behavior and gave us the report cards containing our grades in conduct. They will grade us as either outstanding, satisfactory or poor (being late in school, respect inside the classroom, active in class).

Thanks to our DATAMIN class with Mr. Ramon Duremdes Jr., my blockmates (whose blog links are found left of this page) and I have broaden our ideas on ways on how to build, monitor and repair our online reputations.

“Reputation is a general opinion: the views that are generally held about somebody or something” - Encarta. Reputation goes along with integrity. Integrity results in a solid reputation, not just image—Image is what people think we are. Integrity is what we really are. Thomas Macauley said, “The measure of a man’s real character is what he would do if he would never be found out.” Image promises much but produces little. Integrity never disappoints.
In early days, writing letters is the only way you could connect to other person. If the receiver did not reply, others will say it’s a bad attitude because they expect a reply on it as soon as you receive their message.

Furthermore, when the Internet became part of our lives we became more aggressive on sending emails and on other social networking media like blogs, face book, multiply, you tube, forums, and photos. Because of this, we tend to forget our online reputation. It is how we face the bad and good side of other people’s opinions and also on how to express what we see, receive and reply online. If things get worst, there are a lot off ways in which you could monitor your online reputation.

Internet is now more accessible. For example, in a company, anyone will know what you are doing because your handling the reputation of yourself and the company. Everyone will see through the network what and why did you visit that site and they will ask you what are you doing in that site.

To have a positive reputation, monitor your own reaction and work in the internet or in the public. If you accidentally had a negative reputation you could always repair it using a application to know what is our own side.

Why monitor?
The internet is a fast social media network and it is good that your always updated in other applications so that you could always do a way if something is wrong with your reputation. Its easier to respond if the clients of the company are having problems.

What to monitor?
Your own brands: company, products and services, executives and spokespeople and especially the client.
Your marketing campaigns: positive advertisement about your brand
Industry trends: can reveal areas of opportunity, or potential diseases, long before your brand is specifically mentioned
Your competitors: understanding each competitor's strength, weaknesses, and reputation
Your known-weaknesses: admit your mistakes before someone else exaggerates the story

Where to monitor?
Go through the net servers worldwide monitoring
Link where others hangouts online in social networking group like blogs ( industry blog, vertical communities, employee hangouts, business location) and forums.

When to monitor?
Now.
There are tools that can help us monitor and repair our reputation. Its all because of the internet itself. There are tools that has a lower cost or a free access on it. It includes:
RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) Reader
E-mail Updates
Tracking Software

The effect of reputation in a telecommunication industry is a big deal. Its like digital, they’re still improving their stand as the fastest internet connection around the world and improving more of their services through customer relationship management (customers feedback). They also monitor the unnecessary disconnection and problems that customers encounter. The faster they monitor, the easier to build up a good reputation.

WEB ANALYTICS

“Let your mind start a journey thru a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be...Close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before.” - Erich Fromm

These is so vague, I just only know the word WEB ANALYTICS from our professor Mr. Mon Duremdez. At first we don’t know how to use it and what it’s all about but when it’s time to research on a case about a company Mr. Mon ask us to use the google analytics where-in it is a tracking tools on different issues or concerning about the company. It is a friendly user tool, just type the word that you need to search on and everything you need will be there.

Web analytics- it is a measure of visitors’ journey once on the website to track website performance. It is a way of checking the time, date on how you recently visit the browser

In our report about Data collection, we simply discuss about Chapter 2: Data Collection. There are some terminologies that you need to know about data collection.

Clickstream data- is the recording of what a computer user click on while web browsing or using another software application. A basis of everything we do in our online universe. There are four types of data collection. These are:

Web logs- Were originally developed to capture errors generated by web servers & over time have been “enhanced” to capture more data as analytical needs shifted from technical to marketing based

Web beacons- allows a website to count users who have visited that page or to access certain cookies. Developed during a time when banners ruled the Web as the prime way of “capturing eyeballs” & delivering those to “sticky” websites where we were measuring hits.

Java script tags- Allowed for more data to be collected more accurately & -- very importantly– it ushered in new business models in the industry.

Packet sniffing- known as a packet analyzer. It act of capturing packets of data flowing across a computer network device called packet sniffer. Packet sniffer uses to monitor network performance or troubleshoot problems with network communication by hackers and crackers to gather information illegally about networks they tend to break into. Using packet sniffer it is possible to capture data like passwords, IP address, protocols being used on the network and other information that will help the attacker infiltrate the network.

Sometimes we tend to think “Why does our website exists?”. There are three reasons why we need it.
E-commerce
We used internet through buying and selling products so that it is easy for some people earned money or buy things without going out/ going to the mall. It is the fastest way to communicate to other peoples business.

Lead Generation
It is important for us to guide other peoples’ to be aware of the tools they need in making research data and colleting data so that it is easy for them to work a paper in a minimum time but with more important data.

Brand/Advocacy and Support
Companies had a chance to post there products through advertisement and poster in each web browser. It is useful to see it in the whole universe to be able to market and achieve there goals.

SMART is the one of the Philippines’ wireless services provider with 36.9 million subscribers on its GSM network . It acquired PLDT, the country’s dominant telecommunications carrier and more than 21.3 million subscribers are served under the brands Smart Buddy, Smart Gold and Infinity.

In telecommunication it is important for the companies to have a web analytics to be guided on how to improve there business in the future. It is helpful for them on which part of there system to be upgraded so that their services will be more faster and reliable as always.

Web Analytics can help the company measure its brand equity, its performance as a communications provider and when this happens, Smart can take action. It can enhance marketing and campaign strategies, management, products, people and even decisions.

Though it is an expensive profit but it will gain a lot in the companies profile through there services and on how they give there customers their loyal commitment in every products they buy and need.

We expect BI practices to focus more in terms of Data Security. Since SMART Communications stores a lot of data regarding their consumers, they must have a secured database for that.

Business Intelligence 2.0 (refer to :In Search of Insight" by Charles Nicholls)
We live in real time, minute by minute. News is no longer delayed by days but is streamed in real time. We bank online, and check our real time balances. We book flights with real time visibility of seat availability, and we select the seat we want, on line, in real time. All these transactions generate data. -- book description
